Quarter check in...

So after being here for 4 months, DH and I have had not ONE snowflake. Our debt is moving agozingly slow. We had no money for a family vacation this year. We already live a very frugal life with few extravagences - neither of us have cellphones or ipads or anything like that. We have basic cable and low speed internet. We eat casseroles and our biggest luxury item is fruit for the kids. (tho my 4 yr old said to me the other day, 'mommy you never eat fruit' bc I save it for the children).

SO....at the beg of July we sat down and decided we needed to make more money. Dh has started a new career that will blossom into a lot more pay for him but we can't wait for that any longer. Or rather, I can't bc I don't like living this way.

Today ALL the leads and feelers we put out in July came home to roost:

- DH got a referee job for 4 games every Sun

- DH is now getting 10-20 more hours/week at work

- I got 2 phone calls for job interviews and a JOB OFFER.

All confirmed today. The financial planets must be aligned so I bought a couple of lottery tickets too. The job offer was contingent on my supervisor's approval (this how it works, your manager has to release before another one can hire you). I called as soon as I got the offer and she said, "uh. I'll have to check with HR. Email me the information." Ugh. She's already kaboshed 2 other jobs for me so I was worried. I wrote a very professional email that I am proud of. She called me back right away to say, "sorry - please take it as a compliment that I don't want you to go. Obviously I'm happy for you and I will approve it. But as a manager, I was panicking about how I was going to cover you." I am currently doing the work of 2.5 jobs so I understand. I am the workhorse at the office but that shouldn't hurt me!

So I got the offer, got the approval and confirmed the job & start date all today! After DH got all his good news!!

Unfortunately, this will not kick things up as much as I'd hoped - but we will double our debt payments. We do plan to use a litte in Sept to take the boys tent camping. We have to live too. And the boys are the only reason we care about any of this...and I'm sure they don't care, they just want mommy & daddy time :smileyhappy:

This all sounds very positive to me. And don't forget your net worth improved because you have been making regular payments even if you couldn't do extra and you didn't add to the to debt.

Congrats on the job and all of DH's good news!

I would have bought fruit instead of lotto tickets but if it makes you feel better my DH would have bought the tickets lol.

It sounds to me like you are actually doing really well.  In only four months of really working on this, you'll be increasing your debt  repayment by double - by increasing your income.  Increasing your income - especially in this economy - is HUGE!  Every little bit helps.

Btw, I'm planning on tent camping next month myself.  It's so much fun and so incredibly affordable!

I have lots of grape tomatoes and strawberries in our porch garden so I thought it might be fun to play while the sun is shining on us :smileyhappy:

I can't wait to be able to hit the farmer's market for fresh veggies (fruit will probably be done by the time these revenues kick in.

Well, last time we tent camping I was 5 mos preggo and it was a torrential downpour. I vowed I wasn't going to do it again. But I do like camping. I think the boys will think it's a fun adventure. We only have a 3 person tent tho - so I'll sleep in our car w/the baby (it has 3 rows with the back two turning down).

One good thing about Sept camping...hopefully the fire bans will be over and we can have a fire! :smileyhappy:

PS - I'm always jealous that you have these amazingly fun w/ends of kayaking, boating, etc. I love the outdoors and did lots of it before kids. I had a SO that would take me hiking into the mtns to camp. We found some really cool places. It's just tough with little ones in diapers and stuff. Some day tho!

Until then I can live vicariously through you, LOL. Keep the updates coming!
