Kate, sorry to hear about your mother.

Your daughter has a great sense of humor (and way with words!).

Hi everyone, my name is Liz and I am 30 y/o and the Mom to 3 girls ages 5, 3 and 17 days. I have been on this board since november 2009. We were swamped w/medical bills about 3000 for DD, a new car payment, preschool tuition and H Mom dying so a unplanned trip to Costa Rica. Since then we have paid off my student loan (which wasn't much), paid off the car about. 11500, paid off the credit card a few times and have spent a lot of $ on travel and medical things. Currently we have about 500 on our line of credit because once we finnished paying of our car and midwives the shat hit the fan in multiple ways. I think we will get everything caught up in December b/c we have 3 pay periods otherwise I would be pretty depress. I am on maternity leave until the first week of February and then I will go back only 10hrs/week partly for me and partly b/c my employer is broke. Currently we have 7000 on our bathroom loan that I send 200 a month (80 extra) and this is our target loan. I plan on putting all of our tax refund (3000) to this also unless there is any money on the line of credit. Also once I am back at work I will increase my payment up to 500 until it is paid. We recently refinanced our car for 11500 for 2.9 perecnt for 3 years and I think I will keep my payments the same even after the bathroom is paid off. So, once the bathroom is paid I want to save 250 in a efund and put 250 towards our mortgage. But who knows I might change my mind about that. My H also has a student loan for 160/month but we don't plan on paying that off early either because he will qualify to have that forgiven in 6.5 years. Also we both contribute to our retirement over 10 percent. I recently upped mine and do not have too much but H has a lot and a pension. We also chose the most expensive medical plan for next year b/c the deductibles always kill us which will cost about 100 more a month. I also like Dave R and Suze O and do a mix of their advice. We recently called about refinancing our house because I would really like a 15 year mortgage and we don't qualify b/c we r 30000 underwater. It really frustrates me b/c we have been here 7 years now and can't get rid of our pmi insurance. Which is why I want to send extra to the Mortgage.
Anyways that is all. Kate I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Also, I plan on posting pics of the baby soon but ivillage gave me a hard time when I tried. She is a snugly kitten and we named her Layla Rose (Rose for H grandma who passed away the day after she was born at 91).

My name is Abbie and I have been a member of the DSG for awhile. The same as Norma because we joined at the same time! Years ago anyway! I have been missing for the last year because we moved, went through a foreclosure, didnt have internet for awhile, had a broken computer for another while and have just been generally extremely busy! I have been on this debt journey for awhile. We managed to pay off close to $30,000 dollars in credit debt and a car loan years ago but now we are bogged down in medical and dental debt and we were sued by our condo association for $3000 dollars. I think we have about $8,000 in debt right now but it's constantly changing! Right now I am working on just getting the minimums all payed on time. This has been such a pain because I owe everyone and their brother $20 dollars a month. This is the way of medical debt, I guess. I wish I could just consolodate all of that debt! But the next best thing is to have them all taken out automatically so I don't have to worry or stress about who I missed. That is what I'm working on today actually.
