How about a positive post!

We are all here for lots of different reasons.....Some of us have lost our jobs or are underemployed, some of us are recently divorced, some of us have big medical bills,

What can I control...

Well, we plan to move to a smaller apartment soon so we can keep more of what we earn instead of paying a ridiculous amount of rent.

"1) At least we have a paycheck and 2) At least that paycheck covers the bills." - I love that! It's so true and something I need to be more thankful for in our situation. Thanks for the reminder (:

Great posts and seem to fit in the with theme of conversations DD and I have been engaged in.

Right now, we are both looking for jobs that pay better and we're starting to cooking more vegetarian meals (not only for our budget, but for our health too!). And I'll be started a new budget in January, which will include car expenses so that I can see how tight my budget will be if I get a car. I am SO looking forward to the possibility of a vehicle.

As for what we can control, after much discussion we've realized that when it comes to each aspect of our lives, we can control only certain aspects and not others. For example, unless we find new jobs, we can't really control how much we get paid each week. We must work within that reality. But we can control how we spend it. We can't control how tall we are, but we can control what we weigh. We can't control what other people say but we can control our reactions. It's a mixed bag. DD was telling me that during one visit to our doctor (whom we've known forever) , she was bemoaning that she didn't feel in control of her life. Our doctor responded "It was an illusion that you were ever in control in the first place!". He's such a wonderful, down-to-earth man and he always makes us laugh with his funny insights.

I agree with ktqt07. At least I have a paycheque and the paycheque can cover all of my bills. I'm grateful that at least I'm not worried about life's basic needs.

What I can control...

My DH and I are looking forward to the new year and a new outlook on paying down our bills. We have just had a rough year this year and it's just so crazy looking back at how fast it has gone by! Things add up and things just get out of control before you know it. Now we are ready to take the new year by storm! Our goal for this month is to eat at home more so we have been doing great at that and then keep to a budget for Christmas and we have done that... so I feel like we are off to a good start. I'm staying positive that we will keep this great momentum!

IMHO, what we can control comes down to two things: our mindset and our actions.

What can I control?

How the SO and I can come up with creative ways of spending much needed time together - I was recently able to successfully negotiate a work from home plan that has me in the office only 1 week per month starting in early 2012 and will allow me to work from SO's in NY the rest of

Kassie - You go girl on the "work at home" negotiation. I would LOVE to do that!! You have given me new hope in that regard and good for you in making it happen.
