What a spendy week!

Goodness me. I was in Tampa this weekend and was so proud of myself because I didn't spend a penny that wasn't paid for by the company (go me go).  However, the following occured:

1) My vacuum died :( I knew it was on its way out but was hoping I could clean it enough to get it working. No such luck. Good news is that I got my mom to pick up one on sale for me while I was away ($80 - 75% off) and I was able to use the extra cash I had saved in my jar to pay for it (whenever I don't spend my weekly allowance, I throw it in a jar so that I can use it to stock up on things when they go on sale.)

2) My Norton antivirus expired and I had to renew. It was an autopayment to my CC that I forgot about entirely ($80)

3) My modem died (okay, the dog peed on it and destroyed it) and the charge for the replacement came through on this bill along with my regular payments ($293 in total! Robbery).

4) Doggie day care (yup, you heard me) for when I travel. I'm averaging two flights to Montreal a week lately, and even though I don't stay over, I am out of the house for about 14-16 hours. I found a place that will pick them up and take them for the day, and then drop them off and I can pick the days they go (i.e. when I am in Montreal). It costs $25 a day so my travel stipend will cover this (I get $50 everytime I travel to the airport). Bad news is I have to pay up front for 20 days to get it down to $25 a day (otherwise it's $40 a day) so I have to come up with $500 cash (which I have from their sinking fund).

So, despite ALL that, things are actually good!

I had been putting extra money in the house account for a while to cover some things so I was able to absorb the extra $350 for the modem and the norton. The dogs fund has more than enough to cover their upfront daycare costs and I'm getting a big chqeque in the next few weeks to put it back (I was in Mtl twice two weeks ago, once last week, in Tampa this week and in Montreal twice next week). Based on my current schedule, the 20 days will last me for two months and I will have enough in one month to fully fund it again.

So as much as it sucks to see the sinking funds go down, that is what they are there for. A year ago this would have caused utter panic and I would have run to the CC. Now its all cleared off and we're good to go!

Wow, that definitely sounds expensive, Bex! Well, did you have fun in Florida at least? I'm glad the sudden expenses didn't upset your system.

I think I may have a cold... I've been sick for five weeks, and now I may have something new. Oh, will this never end???

Even though I am not an animal "person," I have to say that to find a sitter that will pick up and drop off your "kids" for a 16 hour day is worth every penny of the $25.00. As long as you didn't have to pull out your CC, I would say you had a GREAT week! Serenity CL - Making a Second Marriage Work

Those things have a way of showing up when we least expect them.  I had a spendy week too!  Tree removal $400, Truck repairs $280....Maybe things will be smooth for both of us next week.

You should be so proud for having those sinking funds in place!  And I am amazed at your dedication to your dogs.  You're such a good doggie mama!
