Amazing what kind of change one person can make! One woman started this movement by inviting her Facebook friends to join her (tomorrow - Saturday, November 5th) in switching from large corporate banks to small credit unions. Anyone here belong to a credit union? What do you like and/or dislike about it? Anyone else planning to make the switch?

I am treated like a person at my big bank, but then again, I know what kind of account I have, I get points I turn into cash every couple months and I pay NO fees at all. I also do not have a credit card there - only debit and they don't charge me, I don't bounce checks or even have savings other than my emergency fund their.
Our business bank is a local credit union. We also have a local bank for some other accounts we keep.
I think you need to analyze your own situation and do what is right for you.
Having this movement on Saturday is also quite weird. I do my business on weekdays, and have fun with family on Saturdays.

I've been doing Credit Union onnly for many years now.. I pay no fees but the only drawback is lack of ATMs in other areas.
I use a small locally/privately owned bank.
I moved my money to a credit union already at the beginning of the year.
We've been credit union members for 20 years now after the bank we were with got bought out a zillion times and every time the service got worse and worse. While we haven't always had luck getting loans there overall we have been very pleased. They don't charge us to death on things and I love their free online banking system.
I, too, have been with my credit union for over 20 years.
I deal with two internet only banks, one is ING Direct. Neither charges any fees. I would like to deal with my local credit union, but I don't want to pay the fees. I was also really put off the credit union when the advisor my mum deals with told me I shouldn't have my money with ING because it isn't insured (CDIC) because they "aren't a real bank" or words to that effect. I didn't like being given that misinformation and lost some trust, but if I needed a bricks and mortar bank I would chose the credit union.
