I heard that it doesn't matter what age you wean, and even if you are ready it still hurts. We still cuddle lots, and she is getting better about not asking. I just never thought it would be like this.
Thanks for the additional info. We should hit the itemized this year, easily. Not only the interest in the home, but the monthly offerings at church should put us there.
Thanks Marie! This is exactly how we are looking at it! I have been wondering with all our debts paid, but the mortgage, how we were going to up DH's retirement, and the kids college. I can not do it without adjusting our taxes. It has to be done. Which in turn will give us more write offs. We already save in his TSP (Thrift Savings Plan, goverment retirement 401K program) at 8%. I want to do a IRA with the other 7%. And we put 123 back each month (my VA check) in a savings account for the kids, but that is earning squat! I do need to find someone up here to discuss this all with.
And sorry it has taken me so long to reply, Gideon is back in the hospital with bacterial pneumonia. Its been a battle. I'm figuring the weekend in the hospital. Then hopefully he can come home.
We are going to be surprised in July as to what we are having. We have a few sets of names picked out. I am working through my list of things we need. Every time I go grocery shopping I have been picking up lotions and soaps etc. I will move onto diapers and wipes soon. We try to buy a big item every month or so. We have bought a 2nd hand crib and dresser/change table, a car seat, I already have a rocker and glider ottoman, we bought a stroller too. Lots of the list yet but I hope to get a few items 2nd hand. We also want a video camera and have been pricing those out. Plus we have had to do renovations and trying to pay for everything in cash. So far so good. Sounds like you have a lot already so that is great. Good luck!
aww hugs! I was pretty surprised and upset when Madison weaned abruptly at 22 months, I was sort of ready for it, at least I thought I was, but when it actually happened, I was pretty sad about it for a while, especially since it was my last. That is so awesome that you were able to tandem for so long!
Your itemized deductions have to be more than the standard deduction for married jointly, if that's how you file, which I think this year is around $11,500. We personally had itemized deductions of around $10k, $6k in mortgage interest, $1200 in property taxes and a few other miscellanous deductions. DH's business stuff was separate if I recall, I'd have to look at last year's taxes, but even before he started his business and we owned the house, we had a low enough interest rate and mortage payment that mortgage interest didn't give us anywhere near enough to itemize.
How do you figure out if you can itemize. My mom told me that they can't, but I don't understand all this tax stuff. Maybe I should invest into reading up on tax law, but its just not something I'm particularly interested in. I hope that we can right off our interest on the house, as it should be close to 10K this year, hopefully less. Plus NY state taxes for property aren't cheap.
As for nursing Thumper, yep! Well I'm starting the weaning process. Gideon ended up really sick and in the hospital this last week. I stopped eating in the process of driving back and forth to the hospital, stress, and just trying to deal with everything. So she has not nursed in 24 hours. She has been asking, but I haven't allowed her. I was going to wean once we were in the new house, but a couple of days earlier won't kill anything. I'm actually having a really hard time with it. :-(
Thanks!!! It does feel like things are falling right into place.
I am scare that is what is going to happen to us! I don't want to pay in, but don't want to loan Uncle Sam all that money interest free! I want it where I believe it belongs.

Oh Congrads Vanessa!
Wow $7k refund, you will probably pay higher state taxes in NY too, so that will come off, as well as the 3rd child.
