Back Again
Thu, 01-17-2013 - 3:09pm

I've been on this board on and off for years.  Last October, I came back feeling motivated to finally get rid of our debt.  I had goals, DH and I were on the same page, etc.  Things were going well!  Then, in mid-November my youngest son got very sick.  He was in and out of the hospital 4 times between Nov. 21 and Dec. 24.  He was put on a feeding tube to his intestines and was just wasting away.  It was horrible.  I had been watching one baby in my home, but when my son got sick the mom found a new sitter.  Debt went up and income went down.  :(   My son is finally making improvements, and I've contacted the mom to see if I can get my job back (she is not too happy with the new sitter).  So here we go again.....we must pay off our debt.  My goal is to have our consumer debt ($30,494) paid off by the time I am 40 (3 years).  I *know* what we need to do, spend less or make more or both, but actually doing it is another thing.  SIGH.  I like coming here to read about everyone's progress...I find it very encouraging!

Welcome Back!

That's a lot to deal with.  I'm so glad your little guy is doing better.  I'm glad to see that you are able to be back to slaying the debt dragon!

So your little guy is better now? I hope that he stays healthy.

Yes, the ideal situation would be more income and less expenses :) When we focus on a gola, it can be surprising how change comes about.

Hang around so we can get to know you,

Soooo happy he is doing better. That sounded really scary.

I too would like to be out of debt by the time I am 40. Consumer debt that is. And it should work if nothing comes up! That is the kicker right.

Good luck! You just come back when ever you feel like it! We like to have you!

No control when a member of our family gets sick, the most important thing is that your son is better.  Best of luck to you & your family.  My goal is to be DEBT FREE including mortgage before I'm 51 - counting 22 months - mortgage is all that is left.  Could probably attack it harder but trying to beef up EF & retirement savings as well...  WE CAN DO IT!!!

Thanks, everyone.  Yes, my son is doing so much better now.  In fact, he just went back to school today!  And I did get my baby-sitting job back, so we are able to cover all of our expenses and have a little extra to throw at the debt each month.  I am feeling like we are really getting back on track.

Something new for us this year is dh's employer is offering an FSA, so we took full advantage and are maxing it out this year.  We will easily use all of the FSA money, and I hope by having it pulled automatically from each check we will be able to stay on top of medical expenses.  We're still paying off old medical bills from years past...hopefully that trend will end!
