Feeling overwhelmed
Tue, 10-22-2013 - 10:16am

I've been in debt settlement for a year and a half now but lately I've been inundated with medical bills that I have put off paying because I didn't have the money.  Well I have money now but I think some of them might be going to collections.  I know it's my fault for not getting them paid in time, I'm just so stressed out right now I freaking hate money!  I'm so sick of living like this and my husband rightfully blames me for all of this, I just want to hear that this too shall pass and get better.

Thanks for listening.

Welcome to DSG.  Many people here have been in situations similar to yours.  Can you share more of your story?

By way of introducing myself, I was in debt of over $50,000 - mostly credit card debt & personal loans related to a sudden steep loss of income due to the tech market crash in 2000, which I took too long to respond to.  I came to DSG in 2004 when things got overwhelming and the wonderful people here shared their stories and experiences and helped me find a way out.  I added another $50,000 in costs related to buying our first home in 2005, so at one point we were over $100K in debt!  We managed to pay it all off in 2008 and get a real future together.  We have been debt-free (besides mortgage) since then.  There are other success stories here too.

Looking forward to hearing more about you.

I'm sorry you are going through a rough time.

Debt settlements take time. This journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Take it one day at a time.

Pay the medical bills as you can or find out where they went to collections. Get them handled and move on if you can pay them. Get that off your plate and focus on rebuilding your credit and getting this behind you.

Do you have a budget? Are you tracking your spending. Can you get a small emergency fund together to get this behind you once and for all so this stressful time can be part of your past?

Post often and we can give you tips. Good luck.
