Gosh I'm so sorry for your news...

Check with some churches for hardship programs.

Whatever you do tho...do not get a used mattress as there is such a north american epidemic with bedgbugs....

Welcome and good luck

Hi;

I am so sorry that you are sleeping on the floor. If it makes you feel better I am sleeping on a futon...

Only thing I can think of and dont shoot the messenger is have you see those free things on craigslist.. I dont know where you live but there is a whole section on free things, free furniture, etc.etc.. Its

You can get an air mattress for around $20 if you shop around.

THANKS for the great suggestions! I assumed that I'd have to spend several hundred dollars on one piece of furniture but now I have some ideas :) I'm doing some asking around and looking into the websites you recommended and the bargain stores :) I'll update you on the progress! By the way the blanket arrived and it's nice and warm. After the furniture I guess I'll send the money to the collections people.....I figure if they didn't bother to tell me about it since 2009 they can wait a few more months :p

Just a quick thought....but if you do purchase some items from Goodwill or bargin stores and feel like you're taking something that someone in need could have used....donate it back after you purchase the nicer items later on.
