Glad to be here, yet I wish I didn't have to be!

I'm Michelle, a mom of 2 boys - I work part time (29 hours a week - there is a reason for that, I'll explain some time LOL) - & have about $55,000 in CC debt plus some med bills from a surgery my husband had last year. Ouch! I like to commiserate, so here I am! I know someone always has it worse - in more debt - maybe can't find a job - but being in debt sure can be lonely! While all my co-workers go out on Fridays for fish fries & drinks - I decline. Someday, I tell myself.

I started a debt blog just after Xmas to try to keep myself honest, & to meet others in the same situation. Then I found this forum. I've read a few threads & I think it will be inspiring to hang around here :)

Welcome. I think you'll like it here.  There is so much to learn from the people on this board.

(I had to giggle, when you mentioned "Friday Fish Fries" . . . you really are from Milwaukee, huh??   lol.

Do you mean fish and chips? ;) That is Thursday's night pub special here. But most of my coworkers & friends - including myself prefer WING night on Wed! $4 for a pound of wings... Welcome here! I have to say I am jealous that you only have to work 29 hours/week, LOL...grass is always greener as you say... Dee

LOL are fish fries a Milwaukee thing?! I had no idea!

There is a reason I work 29 hours - if I work 30 or more, I am eligible for health insurance & if I am eligible I have to take it - very expensive - OR pay more for hubby's - MUCH more - per his employer. It's not worth it for me - if I work 35 hours I will bring home just as much as I do now, because of that added expense.

Ah, that makes sense. I'm in Canada so I pay $60/month - just the tax portion of the medical for the family.

But I am at a point where time is worth more than money right now :) I only work 35 hours/week but I commute 75 mins one way. Plus I am taking FT courses at university. So time is really, really short.

Just by focussing on this path you are on your way. When you look back in a year, you will be amazed at what you accomplished!

Welcome,

Have you tried keeping a spending journal? Do you have budget?

I know it is tough to have a family and get out of debt but if you start chipping away at it...it will go. You just need some patience.

Good luck and post often. Ask questions if you have any. We will try to help!

75 mins one way??? Eek - I am 20 minutes away :)

Yes, I do have a budget - I just started keeping one a few months ago - I think this is my 3rd month. I was way off the first 2 months so hopefully I will get it right this month!
