Christmas Shopping and Budgets

Ok, for some of you I realize it maybe a bit early to think of Christmas but I already purchased my first gift and have started to keep an eye out for sales etc.  My ds has wanted  a certain type of cowboy hat and when I was shopping for something else and saw exactly what he wanted I snatched it up as I know Christmas time is not the time you usually find this types of hats (I found it in a sport goods store - hats brought in for the summer market).  Starting this time of year I do keep my eyes peeled for sales on items I know people want or for stocker stuffers (which is big tradition in our family).

So I will ask.  What is your family budget (and size of family) for Christmas?  Do you save all year for it?  Does your budget include buying extra food etc?

I put $100 a month away for gifts which includes birthday gifts throughout the year.  I put some extra away in savings here or there when dh paycheck is bigger than expected (with overtime hours).  We are a family of 4.  This is the time of year too that I will use points if I have them.  This year the boys want a xBox 360 so I plan to use cc points towards the purchase which will be over half the cost of the item.

I tend to have my shopping done before December but was a little later last year when I got it done.  How about you?

Well, I bought myself a coat!  (spring/summer/fall jacket).  I really needed it.  I find clothes for myself so expensive and tend not to buy.  I have not had a summer jacket for two years! LOL  Good thing I am usually feeling hot/warm and rarely use a jacket.  I had been using a jean jacket if I really needed something.  LOL

I also go my ds snow pants.  Regularily $60 for $15.  Most of the store is picked over.  Not a lot left and it is mostly summer clothes (except for winter jackets) and we don't need summer clothes.  LOL  NO gifts though for xmas at Sears.  Toy dept is pretty much empty and my kids are starting to get pass "toys" anyways.
