Hi everyone!

I thought I would ask if anyone collects points (airmiles, aeroplan etc or other store cards etc).

I only have two points programs, one for an airline and one with Amex.

The airline one I've used mostly for upgrades - buy family vacation tickets and then upgrade them to business class on the least pleasant part of the flight (e.g. the flight to Europe, which is overnight, or the flight to California, which is longer than the trip home).

The Amex points I've used for something kind of offbeat, and that is buying tickets for Broadway shows.

Hi Sandra, We have a few cards that accumulate points of some type...

Upromise - A percentage of what we put on this card is set aside for college for the kids. Various stores also give you and extra % when you use the card there. For example, if I buy clothes online at Old Navy through the Upromise website, I get something like 5% back, plus if I actually use the Upromise credit card for the transaction, I get an extra 1 - 3% I believe. We have been members since 2008 and have saved about $2000 for the kids college. Not a lot, but I don't do anything special to save that money. It just accumulates as I use the card.

Disney - We have a Chase Disney card that we got last year before we went to Disney Land. You get something like $1 Disney Dollar for every $100 you spend on the card. It didn't seem worth it to me really.

Capital One - I like this one the best because we've used it to get free hotel rooms. For bigger travel it doesn't make that much of a difference. With 5 people in our family it just costs a lot to travel no matter how many points we have. Last year I traded in my points for a $250 Target gift card at Christmas. That was really nice!
