Are you taking a family vacation this summer? If so, how do plan/budget for them?  Do you put away a specific amount each month? Use your tax returns or other chunk of money? How do you finance your family vacations?

We are taking a small family vacation this summer.  We usually plan for it pretty far in advance and put away a small bit each month.  I also bring cash and an envelope type system for while we are gone.  I set aside a specific amount to be spent each day and when that money is gone, we don't spend any more.  It really helps keep our budget on track while we are out of town.

I often wonder if I am the only one who does not enjoy vacations. I haven't had too many in my life - as a single parent I could not afford it. Now that I am married again, we have gone on a few vacations, and all I can do is count the days until I can go home.

I have tried to take control, and plan things that I would enjoy - and sometimes I do. But somehow they usually don't work out - and I am stuck at the hotel watching the dogs while everyone else goes and has fun!

No, summer is the busy season for work.  Besides, I prefer not to travel when school is out.  I will, however, take a few short vacations after Labor Day weekend.
