Grocery shopping- where?

Hi everyone,

I'm just curious as to what kind of stores you shop when grocery shopping.  Do you visit supermarkets? Warehouse clubs? Discount grocers? Dollar stores? Or maybe a combo of all?  Where you feel you get the best deals and save the most money?

Hi! I shop wherever prices are the lowest. I live in an urban area and have a great service that compares coupons and ads to let me know where to go for what items. Since they are all close by, it's not inconvenient to go to any of the stores.  I do the coupon thing but the group I belong to makes you swear you won't clear the shelves or resell anything you buy or get for free. The idea is to buy what you will use for the next tweleve weeks. The ads/coupon cycles run in tweleve week cycles.   I'm pretty comfortable with that.

Superwalmart is the only choice I have in my area unless I want to drive for an hour to the nearest city. I'd much prefer a supermarket because they have better choices but since I chose to live in an area without a supermarket I have to take what I can get.

DH does the shopping, and his answer would be:  it depends.

For the best prices, he shops at BJs and ShopRite.  However, he sometimes finds better deals at ShopRite than at BJs, and he finds surprisingly good stuff at BJs that you might not expect (like steak). You really have to compare prices over time, too, because one store might have a special one week, but another store consistently has the best price for the thing you buy all the time.
