Saving Change

Hi ladies :smileyhappy:

Does anyone else have the habit of paying only in bills and just putting their change in their wallet or purse and then pretty much forgetting about it??  I know I am AWFUL with that, my purse feels like I could knock someone out with it!!! I'm trying to remember to clean it out monthly and put it in a jar next to my bed.

All that being said.  Could we try to do a spare change challenge or keep track of it somehow? I know we did this awhile ago but I didn't know if anyone was interested in doing it again.

I've always saved change! Unlike you, I don't put it in my purse anymore. I hardly ever carry a purse, because of back problems (caused by carrying a heavy purse and other things). My little wallet is one of those skinny wallets, but not the aluminum one (the same radio wave jammer may be had by putting 2 layers of heavy duty aluminum foil in the bill portion on the outside layer).

Count your own change before taking it to the bank, if that is what you do with it. Coin wrappers can usually be requested at your bank, and are very often free. DO NOT use coin counting machines. They usually take 10% of your money. I separate my change into a denim bag that I make years ago for that purpose, but several sturdy bags will do. Sort your coins, wrap and take to the bank, or a favorite store that will take it for you. Don't let a great deal of it build up. Thieves just love the fish bowl full of money.

I clean out my purse once a month (receipts, change, etc...) and scoop it all out and into our coffee cup.  Last time we were saving our change we got something like $50 for the year.  Now that I'm dealing with cash more I think I'll save more change.  I'll also need to remember to bring it in more frequently since it will fill faster.

I used to use the coin wrappers for my change (I LOVE rolling coins lol) but the credit union I belong to has a coin sorting machine in their lobby for members to use.  No surcharge, otherwise I'd be rolling them again.

I always pay with bills and dump my change in my purse. Then I clean it out and put it in a tin. I use it to save up for something I would not normally splurge on. A challenge sounds like a fun idea!

I would be game ffor a challenge of some sort.  I don't save all my change but a fair amount of it.  Since I pay cash for groceries and entertainment now I do seem to accumulate more change.  I tend to through it in a jar we have every few weeks or so.

I noticed a quicker accumulation of change when I moved to primarily cash.  I used to clean out my purse once a month and now I do it each payday.

Maybe we can start a change challenge in September :smileyhappy:

Be sure to check that change for rare coins!  There might be some lurking there.
