These can be pretty expensive but some of the results are stunning. See http://www.gaalcreative.com/2010/08/30/36-ways-to-use-alcohol-inks/ for a long list of uses!
Anyway, at the Art gathering, I was giving away two ice cream tubs of marking pens. Plain old go-to-school, play with at home marking pens...and a gal mentioned to me that I should keep them and make my own alcohol ink.
Here's how! Wear old clothes and cover your work surface well. Rubber gloves are good, too!!!Gather lots of small lidded containers...baby food jars are ideal....or anything along that line. Put a 1/2 inch or inch of rubbing alcohol in the jar. Break one of the pens and extract the felt center. Either coil it into the alcohol or cut it in pieces and put it in. Let it set until the alcohol is the color you want. You may have to use more than one pen to get darker colors and depending on how much of the ink in the pen has been used. When you have your desired color, remove the felt piece(s) and tightly cap. Voila....your own ink...and recycling, too! Not to mention savng money and being able to blend your own custom colors!
Great idea, huh??? I'm going to add it to the recipe collection, too!
