I don't even know if this is a place where someone might could help me, but I like iVillage and went looking for a craft message board Smile

I am wanting to use my old Cricut to cut out vinyl initials to put on a plastic shower caddy.  I am giving this as a gift to a friend going off to college.  I have 2 questions.  First, do I need to change the blade depth, or do I just choose my font size and cut?  If I do, please tell me how to do that lol!  And secondly, should I protect the vinyl somehow once I get it onto the caddy because it will be wet so often?  I can't think of a product to put on it :)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Most packages of vinyl come with suggested settings.  You just want the blade to kiss the vinyl -- cut through it, but not through  the backing.  So you change the pressure and decrease the blade depth.  If the vinyl  is thoroughly adhered to the plastic of the caddy, you should be able to seal it.  Just make sure that your sealer is compatible with plastic.  If you have an item you can test it on before you do your final project, I'd suggest that for the best results.
