OK, I know that this February wasn't really February --- more like March (and the weather man says March will be warmer than usual too), but it has been one of those roller coaster months with warm days followed by nasty cold ones, so the daffs aren't being very smart. They should have listened (do daffs have ears?) to DH's three yellow-flowering wich hazel trees which burst into bloom two weeks ago, only to be zapped with a frost/freeze the very same night!

Edited to add: the witch hazel has recovered, at least partly, so they apparenlty didn't get frost-killed...

My daffys are later than most, but they are already almost done and my daylilies and Asiatic lilies are coming on strong!

m with you on loving spring but this spring is STRANGE! It's ben cold for teh last week (after another of those freak 65° days) and yet they are predicting a 70° day on Wednesday adn nothing below 60° this coming week!

Daylilies are coming up now too... Except for teh Witch Hazel, nothing is blooming yet, but if thweek really does make it to 70°, I wouldn't be surprised to see dogwdd, redbuds and tulip trees pocking thier idiotic blooms out! And I'm sure they'll get hit with a frost, if not snow! It's always the way here (we've never seen our flowering cherry actually in bloom --- it always gets zapped!)...

We don't have any daffodils planted here, but I check on our irises every morning. One has just started to poke the tip of its green leaves out of the soil! When we lived down in the city (5000 ft, as opposed to our 8500 ft now) they bloomed in May. Here they don't bloom until late June or July, but it's still good to see something growing out there!

There are four purple crocus blooming in teh back garden, a slwe of mini-daffodils blooming and all DH's tulips (or a lot of them anywya) that he planted down by our new retaining wall on the lake are coming up (I was afraid they'd gotten drowned when our lake level rose so high this winter that it went over the wall!

Now he has to repair the damage done by the builder of that wall --- we have a huge swatch of bare mud where they ran the mini-cat up adn down, and they broke a board in teh dock as well...
