The drought and heat...

The drought and heat are getting everything.  I have one tomato plant totally fried, the rest following suit, and only the peppers and herbs are showing signs of life.

I know what my mistake was.  I bought into the Bonnie myth.  The heat and drought are ALWAYS here, and HAVE ALWAYS been here; this is not un usual.  But in the past, I bought 6-pack tomato seedlings and buried them REALLY DEEP.  Actually, I dug a deep trench, pulled off all of the leaves up to the top cluster, and buried the tomatoes sideways with just that little top cluster of leaves peeking out up on top.  That way, drought is not such an issue, and the roots are deep enough to stay cool.

The Bonnie thing gives you a greenhouse-grown plant, you are told to put it into the ground as-is for depth; and mine have NEVER made it.  I won't make this mistake next year.  It's just not worth it.

I know what you mean --- my heirloom Brandywine is dying from teh top down, despite getting water every day. And all my plants ar eloaded with green tomatoes that are refusing to ripen! Never had a summer like this before except in Saudi, where I couldn't get anything to f=grow either, and don't know how to combat it. If this keeps up, we are going to have to modify what we grow where, I suspect...
