Only have a balcony, is there anything I can grow?

Hi ... I love to garden, but haven't had a real opportunity to do so in years because we don't have a yard! We do have a nice balcony that gets partial sun ... but is there anything (veggies/herbs?) I can realistically grow in containers in this situation? Has anyone tried this and do you have any advice?

Thanks!

We grew a few things in pots on our deck last year. I would imagine that it would be the same for a balcony. I had tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries and hot peppers. Herbs would also be easy in little pots!

This little article also suggests cucumbers:

And here's some info about herbs:

Good luck!

If you do plant tomatoes you might want to pay attention to information on the ones you are planting. I can tell you beefmaster tomatoes are probably not wise, aside from anything else they get huge!!

Thanks so much, this gives me hope! I think I will try to do a cherry tomato plant along with some lettuces, herbs and peas (along with our usual flowers). will keep you posted on what we decide!

The book Grow Great Grub is a good resource about gardening with limited space. Maybe you can check it out at the library. :)

She also has a great website that might be a good resource.

Most herbs can be grown in pots.

Mother Earth has some great ideas for "city" apartment/balcony gardening.
