This is actually bigger than it sounds. I've been wanting to make socks in entrelac (having a beautiful yarn for it) but I didn't want it uninterrupted all around the foot & heel -- I made a pair like that, from a pattern, and it was just too tight. I figure if I can make it all (or mostly-all) around the leg & only on top of the foot, there may be more stretch to get into it. So I started a swatch of entrelac with garter stitch on the bottom and seed stitch on the sides. It wasn't as hard as I was fearing. The only thing different is the side triangles, which don't have an edge when they're done, but just continue in the border pattern. Figure out how to transition the top, and I'm ready to design socks.

Sounds like an interesting way to knitting your socks....looking forward  to pictures of them.
