Martha, your work is lovely! Congrats on the first place.
I did not go to either our state or county fair this year, but last year I looked at the needlework that was entered in the county fair and felt I could do better than most of it, except for the quilts. The entries were not numerous.
Well, I'd just like to say that I would have LOVED to see what thw blues were where you won reds... becasue your stuff is wonderful!
Our fair seems to have declining entires as well. The lady who checked me into our s said that her sewing "guild" was so disappointed at teh showing in 2010 that they all got to gether and entered over 200 items this year to boost the showing. It''s rather hard to tell at our show, though, since they seem to only display the ribbon winners --- Once upon a time, they showed it all but cooking and flower show entries have encoached on the needlework hall and display space is one-quarter what it used to be!
A freind on another blog told me that she enters simply to show others that there is a craft out there that they might try. If she stopped (she lives in Georgia), she fears there would be no entries in the needlework section - needlepoint...

In three of the classes that I got the red the blue ribbon winners were really nice and deserved the blue.
Those are lovely - all that tiny detail!
Thank you Liz.
