from me and mine to you and yours!
Same to you, Carol.
Sorry I haven't been around much lately, but this latest board fiasco just has me totally flummoxed! I hope things get better soon.
Merry Christmas! Hope it was a good one!
Thank you Carol and Hi Liz! I haven't been around as much as usual either because of all the problems. Plus I haven't been stitching very much lately either. I had to do my Christmas cards and I have been reading a really good book that you would enjoy and you just can't do these things and stitch at the same time. But I am going to get some stitching done tonight I do think!
I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year! And if I had one wish, it would be that our boards would get fixed for I miss my friends around here!
What is the book, please? I could always use a good read that's hard to put away!
I have the same wish for a fixed board as I feel like I'm talking to myself here. Please check in, Jacquie and Liz --- I miss you!
The Immortality of Henrietta Lacks
As a scientist you will find this fascinating and disturbing at the same time. And it is a true story. They were reading at the college where my sister teaches and all the departments were using it. Harriette didn't know about it at first but she said it would have made it much easier to teach the section on genetics in her course on the fundamentals of diseases. Perhaps you have already read it.
WELCOME! Glad to meet you.
Tell us something about you --- what do you stitch - is it sewing, quilting, embroidery or yarn-based needlecraft that intrigues you most? Do you make things for use around your own home, do you make them as gifts, or are you a pro who sells your crat/art? Inquiring minds (nosey Parkers) want to know!
I'm primarily an embroiderer, specializing in cross-stitch and blackwork but learning more about free embroidery and needlepoint. I'm webmaster (that is a joke best left untold) for the local quilt guild (I who have never completed a single quilt!) and a "detail angel" for a beading blog (I can d bead embroidery but not beaded jewelry). As for sewing, I'm reasonably competant at straight-line stitching so long as the machine is properly threaded (I have issues with my machine!). And as for yarn arts, I can knit but can't croceht and have never tried felting... collections of fabric, threads, beads and charts pretty much means I really need to stay away from any new needleart that requires investment in material and tools!
Again, welcome to Stitcher's Niche. Let us know if there is anything you want to find on this site (or others) and any issues with posting while here.
Ohhh --- the lady with the immortal cancer cells, right? HL something or-other... I need to find that book - sounds fascinating!
Warm greetings to all of you too! I did get a bit of stitching done for the holidays. I think I have pictures of at least some of it. Somehow though when my computer got moved, the printer/scanner, which is out of ink anyway, did not get moved with it. I should get that problem resolved soon though. I have a new project that I want to start next, but haven't quite gotten all the supplies together so I can commence. It's a Nancy Cucci design that I bought when I went to the EGA-GPR Regional Seminar in Tacoma last summer. It's called Spring Banner, so now seems like a good time for it. It's been so cold & rainy here I'm definitely ready for spring. Our rainfall is at something like 176% of normal. Although there hasn't been any real flooding - an intersection here & there mostly. I try to stay in when it's coming down that hard. The joys of no longer having to go to work!
I've also been doing a lot of reading. The "Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" is one that my FL reading group (formerly of ivillage, but now on Goodreads after the previous changes here) has talked about a lot. I haven't read it yet, but am still considering it. I've also been looking through my Christmas Craft books - not doing anything from them of course, but enjoying browsing.
I'm sorry I got out of the habit of coming here during all the hassles. I will try to be back more often.
So glad to see you here again.
The hassles haven't gone away entirely but at least the boards are working, which is more than could be said of them a few weeks ago. I have hopes --- maybe falsely placed, but hopes!
I have found that you can post photos IF you have them in Photobucket (MAN, is everyone nuts? THEY have gone adn redesigned their site adn I HATE it!) and use the direct link in the WYSIWYG little tree icon here, the photo will insert into the text. A pain that one needs to store the photo elsewhere but at least we can get them in.
I have learned a few more tips and tricks by trial and error (and with the help of CM Evelyn) so if you need help, let me know and I'll see if I can make posting here sensible again!
Now if only they would fix the "that email already taken" error I get when TRYING to fix my [preferences...
