Dana,

This reminds me when I took sewing back when we had Home Ec classes! I know I am dating myself!!

I think you need two pairs of scissors-one small one for sniping and one larger (shears)

Dana, Mary Frances pretty much covered it for sewing --- but quilting is a horse of another color!

For quilting, you need a cutting mat, a really good acrylic ruler (prefereably 24 Inches long) and a rotary cutter (be careful, those things are sharp) tp start. If you are piecing by machine, a quality cotton thread is a good idea, in both spool and bobbin (and you'll probably wants extra bobbins becasue you will probably run out right at the worst time), a seam ripper (I ALWAYS need to rip out at least one seam --- and a good seam ripper can also double as a stilletto to help you control seam allowances when sewing blocks together), a foot that allows you to control your seam allowance (1/4" is the "rule" and most machines have markings on the feed dog plate but there are feet which are made for quarter-inch as well...), and pins (flat-head pins with bright colored heads are best,
