I followed links & came to the tutorial on the two basic ways to knit with a fork. #1 is very much like finger-weaving, but using only 2 fingers. I could probably make a close facsimilie of #2 on fingers if I tried (It involves working one tine at a time & turning around, but if you had one technique for the left & another for the right ...)

I think you could easily make this shamrock motif with any of these techniques and appliqué it to the blanket...
