Actually, those were the 3rd & 4th pairs of socks I ever made. I encoded mine & my husband's initials in the stripes along the leg & along the instep. (i.e. rather than clearly being dots & dashes, it was all in the varying stripe widths) Unfortunately, they weren't great socks. Mine were top down, and rather lower than I perfer to wear. His, I also checkerboarded the heel, but didn't really do the strand work right. (Should have twisted the strands together at the end of the row or otherwise kept it from being two separate flaps of material)
