Winding a ball of yarn from a skein or hank...

Back in 2010, we had a thread on how to wind yarn into balls: http://www.ivillage.com/forums/node/12801127 but most of that thread has been stripped of information and the only link that survived the trasnfer is this one... http://knitting.about.com/od/learntoknit/ss/hank_winding.htm Besides, I think this thread is too old to survive thte next adjustment from the iVIllage techs (I beleive January 1, 2011 is the cut-off for a data strip later on this year...). SO let's start a new thread...

So oftten, winding a ball of yarn or thread from a skein or hank requires some willing volunteer with two arms to hodl the skien, or the back or a chair or, better yet, a yarn winder of some sort. But the former isn't always available and the latter is pricey so this crocheter has come up with a "frugal" tool for winding balls of yarn: http://yarnandspices.wordpress.com/2011/03/18/frugal-crochet-gadgets/

What a cool idea!  I have a ball winder, but I don't have a yarn swift so it really is a huge pain when I have to wind a hank of yarn.
