Winter Break Vacation

Anyone know of an interesting place to travel to on school vacation week between Christmas and New Years? Well known places like Disney end out being expensive because everyone goes there. Even flights are expensive.

It seems to me that there ought to be some nice, out of the way places where flights are available, that have interesting tourist sights and that have quality resorts. Is there a place near you? Have you been to or heard of a place?

It would be great to find great hospitality, good food and pleasant accomodations which allow plenty of time to visit with family but also have something the kids can enjoy and no one has to do the cooking.

Anyone?

I don't know how useful this is but a friend of mine loves to take her grandchildren to Great Wolf Lodge. It is a chain adn the quality may vary from location to location but she swears by the one shown here: http://www.greatwolf.com/sandusky/familyfun?utm_  It's a water park which caters to the kids and this one is close to another called Kalahari (which she said was OK, but not as good... http://www.kalahariresorts.com/oh/

Of course, between Christmas and New Year's HERE is pretty dodgy, weather-wise... it could be snowy, it might not be. One never knows...
