Hi, I'm an old-timer on Ivillage but rarely post. My 15 yr old cat is in very good health for her age (my vet thought she was around 10!) and is hardly feeble. However, for about the past year, her entire body will suddenly jerk or 'shudder' a few times, lasting a quick second. It's kind of like our bodies react when we hiccup. Her eyes blink but remain focused, she doesn't cry out or appear in pain, and she acts totally fine while it's happening. These episodes don't seem to bother her much, and her health has not gone downhill. It doesn't seem like a skin twitching thing, but also doesn't seem like a 'true' spasm. I've researched all the conditions which involve spasms, and she exhibits NONE of the symptoms of any of them. It's like they don't even bother her...
She recieves vet care every 6 months - I've told the vet about these episodes twice. She explained that I could do neurological tests as it may be spine or brain related. She had no solid prognosis to give me, and earnestly said that there isn't really any treatment for these episodes. She didn't seem too concerned about my kitty's quality of life, and as I said, kitty's doing great for her years. I'm wondering if anyone's ever heard of this, as I'm totally baffled. I found 1 person on the net whose kitty did the same thing, was healthy otherwise, and her vet didn't know what caused it either. Any thoughts?
