I usually don't watch this show cause it upsets me. But they are having a marathon today and for whatever reason I'm compelled to watch. I need to vent and rant about some stuff and I know you all will be understanding and share in my outrage.
On the last episode I watched, the SPCA officers entered two houses to rescue cats and dogs. The first house had approx. 30 cats in it. The second house had approx. 30 dogs. The owners of the houses are not related and these two incidents are different cases. Naturally, both houses were absolutely digusting. There was pee and feces all over the place. All animals were filthy and sick. Aside from the ill treatment of the animals, what kind of moron DOES NOT clean up after their pets? The bad treatment is horrendous in and of itself, but what really gets me is that these people just let their pets "go" all over the place and didn't clean the messes up. These were in their homes where they too are LIVING. Who lives like that? In the house with the cats, the SPCA officer commented on how the carpeting what just full of stains and how his feet were kind of sticking to the floor. The owner was like "well, I don't know how to take care of all these cats". I only saw one litterbox which was full and filthy so naturally no cat is going to go in it. I can't comment on if there were other litterboxes cause the show only portrayed the one. I guess it's the sheer stupidity of the situations which get to me.
Obviously, I would never be able to be an animal control/rescue person. lol Just needed to vent.

Funny how you mentioned you'd never be an animal control officer.
I recently got hired as an "emergency driver" at my local humane society. basically, i'm an animal control officer, just without the title.
Its definetely a hard job to do. You see things you wish you hadn't. You see the unthinkable. Hearing about it, and actually seeing it, are 2 different things. It's sad at times. Its frustrating at times, and others, you feel happy (few and far between though.) For every one animal you save, it makes it worth it. Even if it means you've had to see 10 die.
The only thing i really hate about it, is having to deal with these stupid, uneducated people. Don't get me wrong, sometimes people are just misinformed, and really don't know how to take care of their pet, all they really need is some guidelines. But then you get the ones who are just plain ignorant, and refuse to treat the animal humanely. Those are the ones that tick me off. Its hard to keep it "cool" when dealing with these people. Sometimes (all the time), you just wanna punch them in the head. *sigh* I wish my job didn't exist, but it will for a very long time to come.
I also watched this show, it certainly can be very upsetting. I do not have any animals, by choice. But, I've come on a problem I hope someone can help me with. I helped to clean an apartment that a girlfriend of mine owns. The lady that lived there had 20 cats, male and female, and you should see the mess. The smell is unbelievable. We have pulled all the carpets out and thrown then away, but the smell lingers and is very strong. You can tell most of it is from the cats. What can we do short of tearing the place down and rebuilding.
I appreciate any help you'll can give me.
Thanks,
