Anyone Have A Cat Who Showers?

Hello,

Sorry this is a little long.

This is my first post on this board. I have two 9 year old Tabby cats who are brothers. I have had them since the day they were born. Their names are Claude and Tegato. Claude is a short-hair and Tegato is a long-hair. They are both Tabbies. Claude showers with us every day. He sits on the front of the bath tub and sticks his head under the shower. He loves to walk around purring while he is soaked. He also insits on being petted dry and will not let myself or my hubby near him with a towel. Does anyone else have a cat that does this or is Claude just strange. It is also interesting how they each have their own personality. Claude likes to sit or lay near us and follows my hubby everywhere. Tegato is a total lap cat only with us. Claude only talks when he wants something. Tegato used to be the quietest cat I have ever been around. I used to also have a grey and white short-hair female named T. She passed away Nov. 03. T was with the boys from the moment they were born. T was the vocal one. Ever since T passed away Tegato runs around meowing randomly. I think he misses T. Also how long does it take for cats to grieve the loss of another cat. The boys have each other so I do not need another cat. Also Claude is territorial and does not get along with other cats.

Welcome to the cats board! Claude sounds like a real character - LOL! I've heard of cats that like water, but I've never personally witnessed it. I adopted my Tasha from the shelter last December, and the information sheet left by her previous owners said that she "doesn't mind baths". I've yet to put that to the test. :)

So sorry to hear about T's passing. Yes, Tegato is probably looking for her. Cats definitely grieve the loss of a friend. I'm not really sure for how long, I suppose every cat is different. Just give Tegato some extra love and playtime.

Do you have any pictures of your kitties?

I have not been able to take pictures of my cats since they were babies. I only have one picture of T which also includes me in my pj's half asleep. My bf at the time took a picture of her laying next to me. I will not allow anyone to see what I look like in the morning. I still have a hard time looking at the picture of T. The pictures are in a box in my basement. I have to take new pictures of the boys if they will ever let me. They tend to run away so I either get a picture of the object they were sitting on or a blur. Tegato is very shy and Claude does not like to sit still when I try to take pictures.

T was a rescued cat that was abandonned. She was left for dead in a friend of mines' pick-up and he called and asked if I would take her after his landlord threatened to evict him since he was in a no pets building. When I first saw T I thought she was a kitten. I was shocked when the vet told me she was a year or two old. T was abused when she was a kitten and quit growing. She was also in really bad shape when I got her. She had a nasty infection in one of her legs. Her leg was so red it looked like she was bleeding. She also had no fur on that leg and a major limp. The vet I took her too wanted to re-break her leg because a broken bone healed wrong. I told the vet I wanted to wait until the infection in her leg was gone. I am glad I waited the limp left with the infection and her hair grew back. She was also so under weight you could almost literaly see her ribs. She would not drink kitten milk or eat any sort of cat food. The vet told me to try meat flavored baby food and it worked. She finally did gain weight but was always tiny. I still miss her terribly even though she passed away a while ago. I guess it's because I feel like I never got to say goodbye to her since she passed away while she was at the vet's office. I am still shocked that I lost her considering the night before she died the vet told me she was getting better. I still blame myself for not noticing something was wrong with her sooner. She quit going to the bathroom and slowly stopped eating. She never much cared for being picked up and was playful when she wanted to be. She loved to lounge on my bed. It is hard to notice your cat stopped going to the bathroom when you have two other cats and the litter box is in the basement. Does one ever really get over loosing a pet?

Welcome to the board! I have such a funny visual image of Claude sticking his head under the shower - how cute! There must be something he likes about doing it so I wouldn't worry about it. All cats have their unique personalities and quirky things they do. Tillie has gotten so she won't drink out of her water bowl but if I fill one of those small applesauce containers with water and put it on her rug, she'll drink from it! I have no idea why. It's the exact same water that is in her bowl. Oh, well. You gotta love them!

I hope you'll come back often and share the stories of your kitties.

I would not think about adding another cat to my household now. Another cat would definitely not help Tegato get over missing T. He is very shy he would be terrified if I got another cat. Plus him and his brother get along very well. Claude would also have a fit he is territorial and does not like having his space invaded. My hubby's best friend used to teach in Michigan and he lives in Missouri. When he was going home on long breaks he would stop at our house for a day or two with his cat. Claude used to have a fit. He would constantly hiss at the other cat one night they even got into a fight. Eventually Claude learned to avoid our guest but he would walk around hissing at anything that cat sat on for about 2 or three days after the guest was gone. Even when Claude was a baby he did not get along with unexpected guests.

It almost seems like since T passed away Tegato decided the house became too quiet. He just loves to talk now. He will sit in my lap and talk to me. He likes to watch baseball games with me. One night my hubby came home from work and asked me how the game was going Tegato started meowing at him before I could answer. He also likes the car commercial for Sabb. He will be sitting in my lap and all of the sudden runs to the end of the couch and meow at the entire commercial. When he started doing this I told me hubby that Tegato wants a Sabb he was laughing. The funny thing is he hates to be in the car.

Hi tegato73,

I recently took in a second cat, his name is Tiger and he's 10 years old. You can see him in the shower if you look at my avitar, that is the picture that shows up near my name on the post..

Anyways Tiger loves taking Showers! He purrs, drinks the water, swats at the falling water, absolutely loves it!!

Funny critters aren't they?

:)

Your cat looks so adorable. Yes cats do have their own personalities. My two cats are brothers and get a long well but they each have their own habits and preferences. Tegato cudles with either of us. Claude prefers to be attached to my hubby. He will come to me for attention when the hubby is not home or is busy and ignores the cat. Tegato used to shower when he was a kitten but outgrew it for some reason. I have had the boys since they were born. The entire litter used to shower together. It was hillarious when firends were visiting and they would have 6 kittens in the shower with them. Well one of these days I will figure out how to get the boys to let me take pictures of them.

My tabby Boy loves it when we are in the shower. If we are gone for the longest time he will poke his head into the shower curtain to see if we are almost done, or sit on the sink. He likes to sit in the bathtub too and drinks the water from the drain when we are done.

hi. your kitties seem very cute. a question: have you tried taking pics of them when they're sleeping? when cats sleep they can get into all strange sleeping positions. i can't tell you how many times my daisy has her tongue sticking out! lol. i've got a picture of it on my website. i've found that when she's asleep is the besttime for me to take pictures- this or relaxing in a window. i also have my camera easily accessible. now in terms of getting a pic of her in her "jack rabbit" pose i've never been able to get one. when she's in that pose she's usually at my feet and i can't reach across the room to grab my camera. but this pose is rare anways. my daisy likes to sleep a lot so most of my pics are of her doing just that! if you wait for the "cute picture opportunity" (like a cat in the tub) you may never be quick enough to capture it on film. once my daisy actually was slepping on my desk. the space she was in was quite small and i magine quite uncomfortable. but there she was- sleeping. i quietly went downstairs to grab my camera and when i went back to my room (about 10 seconds later) she was off my desk. she hasn't slept on my desk since that 1 time. i've also found that my daisy doesn't like the sound my camera makes when i turn it on (its barely audible to me but must be amplified to a cat). so if i know i'm gonna snap a photo of her i make sure i turn on the camera where she doesn't hear it. but after 8 years my daisy is pretty used to having me take her photo- even if she doesn't always like it! lol
