Disclaimer: For the record, no Annie's were permanently injured due to this event. But mommy felt horrible.
Another Bad Annie story. Back in our apartment-living days, I had a bathroom in which NOTHING was kept on the counter. This was because, as I've stated before, Bad Annie believes nothing should sit on counters, and would kick off anything left there. In the mornings, as I would do my makeup, I would have the curling iron plugged in, heating up. It took a long time to heat. Bad Annie, meanwhile, would lounge on the other side of the counter, trying to grab any makeup brushes or cosmetics that might have left my sight.
So one morning, I finished my makeup, but had not yet done my hair. I decided to, er, use the toilet...when I heard this "ssst!" sound. Like something sizzling really quickly. I turn to look...and there is Bad Annie, standing over the super-hot curling iron...and she's makeing this funny face and sticking her tongue in and out like "blah...blah...blah" Yes, she had LICKED the curling iron! I raced over to her, and sure enough, her little pink tongue was kinda red. I tried to get her to drink water...but have you ever tried to get a cat to drink water when they don't want to? Yeah, exactly.
Well, I couldn't stay home with her. So when I got to work, I called the vet. They said she should be fine, but if I see blisters or something, bring her in. (At least, I think that's what she said. It was 2 yrs ago.) Poor Annie couldn't eat her dry food, because it hurt. I gave her some soft food, but she threw most of that up. (that's her usual reaction to soft catfood.) The poor thing couldn't eat for 3 days.
Bad Annie has since recovered completely. I still can't keep her away from curling irons (she's broken 3 of them)...but I invested in one that heats up in 1min. So it's never on without supervision. But if you could have seen that cat's face, when she was going "blah...blah..blah..." and sticking her tongue out...looking back now, it was SO funny!

I check the dryer every time I put laundry in. It's like, a paranoid reflex, because I've never found a cat in a dryer. Ok, I had Chalimar jump in the fridge once, but that's different. But why lick a curling iron? And it's not like I hadn't done the same routine every morning for 5 yrs. This was not a new item to her.
