can a skunk make a cat sick?

My cat got sprayed by a skunk a few days ago, and ever since, he's been laying around outside just looking sad. Normally he is very loud and active and going in and out all the time. He's 14 years old, but he just got a rabies and a distemper shot last week, so I can't think of anything the skunk could have given him. He sits in the same place all day now and isn't even asking for food, although he did eat when I brought him something. I hate to take him to the vet because he really hates the long car trip and he just did it last week. Could the skunk have given him a disease?

Thanks catwoman --
He did get sprayed in the face, I think, and he did a lot of licking, so maybe that's it. I'll let him do his thing outside for a few more days and maybe if he doesn't perk up I'll take him to the vet. His not feeling well did directly coincide with the skunk though, so it's probably the perfume that he licked or something. Thanks for the reassurance!

I would get him into the vet to be checked out and cleaned up. He's got to be uncomfortable after being sprayed and probably sick if he's been trying to clean himself up. At 14 I don't think you need this kind of stress without some assistance in the clean up department.
