Can you beleive this?

My daughter has been having trouble with the school social worker being too, what's a good word? Um nosey I guess... Well, they say she came to school smelling funny a few times and instead of calling me and asking me to come in and talk about it, they called Child Protective Services to come investgate me. The Child Protective worker, found no problem with me, my house or anything else. Long story short, the school wasn't satisfied, so they decided to call animal control and tell them we had 15 to 20 cats in our house!!!! What nerve!!! Obviously we don't have that many cats. We do have a number of cats, yes. But no where near that many, come on now. The principal admited to me that she herself had made the call. How dare she. Who does she think she is?? How would she feel if I did that to her? The animal control officer, after seeing that, no we did not have that many cats, only asked if their shots were up to date.

That upset me as much, if not more than her calling Child Services. I mean what does my child's school have to do with my cats? Can anyone here tell me who has the right to tell me how many cats are "too many cats"? The principal told me I had "too many cats". I guess she thought it was her job to help me with that "problem"? Some people have no respect at all....

Yes...the child protective services and the animal control people did their jobs. The principal is the one who escalated it WAY to fast. And the fact that she made the one call anonymously...come on. If she can't call in her official capacity, then she obviously doesn't have enough proof to warant it.

I'll admit though, I am greatly against school principals, guidance councelors, and social workers. People in those jobs caused unwarranted problems in my mom's school life when she was growing up. So she raised my siblings and myself to have an inherant distrust of those people. I had my own problems with guidance councelors, as it was, and I was a good student and never caused problems. I just was "quiet", and refused to play their little "you have to do volunteer work if you want to get your report card" games.

Hey, I know what you mean. A daycare provider I know by law had to turn a childs situation in to the human resource people because the child had a horrible hand print mark on his face, not only did the hr tell that family who turned them in, which they shouldn't have, they didn't do anything to the family. The childs mother came and picked the child up for the daycare, she could have been dangerous to the provider. I also have a reputation at the schools here, from Kindergarten till graduation I made my presence known, there are some teachers you just can't trust to make good judgements with your child, we had one in 2nd grade that went after certain kids every year, really messed their self esteem? up. I also dealt with a horrible principal during my sons high school years, my son was one of their best baseball pitchers, he didn't get along with the coach, yet stayed on the team 5 yrs. then had enough, so he quit the team and while he was on the team, they would let him go off campus for lunch, all kinds of things, the day after he quit, they went after him for breathing wrong, needless to say, I made several visits and phone calls about this. Our guid. counselor was a laugh, not capable of doing her job...so I am on your side. Donna

You can ask whoever licenses your daycare. I don't know that I would red flag it though. They may would require your dog and cats be in a room away from the d/c, who knows what they would come up with. My dhr lady just checks for rabies papers yearly. The food program that I am on-if the big guys came over I would be written up, even if I only had one cat, because I have cat food and a water bowl in the kitchen. They say this is a no no. As you can't read, I make my own rules in my house and the d/c is well run, well taken care of. They were discussing letting the health dept. start checking you, rating you like they do restaurants. If that happened I would close. They would want your food (even ketchup, milk etc.) in a separate refrig, want you to use certain cleaners but if the cleaners are out at all you have points off, if you are in the middle of making lunch and they pop in and you were to leave the hamb. meat you were fixing to fry out while you talked to them, thats trouble. The list goes on and on. I won't ever fool with it. Donna

I know we have a ton of rules too and the pets and food dishes cannot be in the same room and we also have to show proof of shots

The people who check me a very easy going. Luckily. Years ago I would have worried more about following the rules but now I am low on kids and closing within a year anyway so...My food bowl and watr dish is in the kitchen. Two litter boxes are by the back door which is my dining room area. No one has ever said anything. As far as playing, the kids aren't in these areas and they are well supervised at all times. Donna

Thank you for visiting the City of Fargo Web site. I received your e-mail below and searched for an answer in the archives of our Chat with the Chief Web page using “animals” as the search word.
