Carb addicted Cat?

Hi Everyone,
Sorry to be gone for so long. I hope that you and all your furry kids are all doing well.
I am writing because I have seen something with our new cat, Gabby, that I have never witnessed with our older cat, Hunter. Gabby seems to be addicted to bread. I first notcied that she liked bread, while I was attempting to fix a sandwhich, turned my back and then saw the bread was on the floor getting gobbled up by her. Now she has gotten big enough to get on the top of the fridge where the breads are kept, and I found her sniffing at a pack of buns. I didn't think much of it, I just assumed she was investigating this new territory, until I saw her drag the bag-o-buns out of the basket.
I showed my husabnd and we got a chuckle out of her behavior. Well, we went out that afternoon, to return home and find the bag-o-buns on the floor, ripped open and a lot of bites were taken out.
Well, I thought it was strange, but was shocked to find she had done it the very next day (while guests were on their way over no less) as she rummaged through the grocery bags, sniffed out a new package of buns, dragged them out, and proceeded to do the very same thing. Later that night I caught and stopped her from trying to snag a donut (that another guest had brought for dessert)
I guess my ramblings all lead here.. Is it safe for a cat to eat breads? If so, I'm certain it should be in moderation, so I'll be keeping a watchful eye. Should I be concered? Cnn all the carbs cause health problems (other than obesity)? I was more nervous about her choking on the plastic at first, but I saw that she doesn't eat it, just pulls the package open. Does anyone else have a carb additced cat? Is this normal? Any insight would be very helpful.

Hi Justine. It's nice to see you back.
I've actually been missing the boards. My computer got some serious infections, and I've been staying away from the 'net. All is well with the Hunter /Gabby co-habitation so far. She has gotten quite territotrial when it comes to me though..lol. My husband has witnessed some of her morning rituals and he is convinved she believes I am mommy-cat!!
Trouble likes toast, huh? Is it buttered, or dry, or does he not have a preference? Hunter on the other hand, could care less about bread. You're right, they all have the items that they go ga-ga for.
I hope that everyone by you is doing well. Thanks again - and I will be seeing everyone around more often!!
Justine
