Cat Behavior

I happened to come acrossed this board while looking up a very odd behavior my cat has. So I thought I would mention it heere, and see if anyone has heard about it or has any insight to it. My cat who is 5, does the strangest thing. At night while we are sleeping she brings items such as small stuffed animals, gloves, mittens, socks and drops them by my bedside. Sometimes she drops a couple by me, and then there is a line of the items all the way to the different rooms in the house she gets them from. At first we had no idea how those things were getting there, but then one night she was meowing in a very loud strange way and we turned the light on to see she had one of my sons sizeable stuffed animals in her mouth. It is so funny, and we are stumped as to why she might have this habit. This happens usually every night. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks! Jenn

Thanks for responding so quickly. I also think its cute. Some nights she is busier than others, sometimes its just a couple of things, other times she has brought out 15 things. She is a very loving Kittie. We have 3 cats. "Winnie" (female) who is 7 and "Tigger" who is 5 (she is the "collecter") and "Arnold" (male) who is 2 1/2. They all get along relatively well. Arnold tries to be the dominating male, and irritates Tigger alot. they "fight" alot, although not to the poitnof injury or anything. He tries to "fight" with Winne but she doesnt put up with it, and usually he backs right down. They are all indoor cats. Never been outdoors. Arnold has gone outside on our porch once last summer, I think he liked it, being the male and all, he I am sure would love to hunt and explore, but we have Coyotes and one has been right in our driveway so its inside only for my kitties. We love them dearly. Jenn

I'm certainly no cat expert or behaviorist, but I have seen this behavior before in my grandma's cat. They used to live out in the country/woods and had a black persian cat named Mugsy. He had a cat door and went in and out at his leisure. He used to bring in mice and squirrels and lay them on the floor next to my grandma's bed. She always thought he was bringing her presents to impress her (he was my grandpa's cat before they were married).

The funny part is when they weren't completely dead (well, it's not funny, but imagine waking up to a maimed squirrel loose in your kitchen...good storytelling moments). He also used to play with his prey in the bathtub and then leave them there when he was finished...and of course my grandma would be the first to take a shower and discover is playdate. Mugsy related to my grandma in a very different way, but it was so endearing. :0) I think it's sweet.

Be greatful that they are stuffed animals and not critters (lol). Spunky use to bring in torsos of lizards with only the veins left where the legs use to be. When I wouldn't see him bringing it in - Spunky would meow until I looked down and saw the horrid remains! Yuck!
