Help! A neighborhood cat that's been coming to our steps recently had her kittens, and brought them over to our hallways, they've been staying with us, and we may keep one of them and so was the cat. The mother cat only recently started spending more time away from them. I hadn't seen her in a couple of days. This morning, I saw soemthing lying up the street from my house. I was afraid to approach if for fear it might be the kittens' mother. I'm sad about it and son't know what to do if this happens to be the motehr cat. I don't think I could bury it myself. Does anyone know what options I have to bury/dispose of the body??? Thanks.

thanks for your reply unicorn21. I will try to look for a shelter with a no-kill policy of course. I've already bought the litter, and it is the clumping kind! IS it really hazardous for them. I don't know much about cats, and didn't knwo this piece of info. beforehand. Would they still keep using the box if its location is moved?

I would definitely not take the chance with the clumping litter! You can save it and use it later, once the kitten is grown up,

I was using the clumping litter with these 4 wk old kittens I am fostering. It was sticking to their rear and feet etc...a mess to get off them, someone said it could stick to their private area and cause an obstruction. I switched to regular clay litter and it is much better. Donna

Hi Claudia,

I am glad you got her and put her in your yard. It is amazing how much an animal you do not really know or have limited exposure to, can touch you so much. When I lived near Chicago I suffered greatly when 2 cats I used to care for outside were killed by cars. Then a mother skunk was hit and I tried to care for and resuce the baby kits (is that redundant?). Then out here in Montana a stray name kitty-cat we would feed and hang with on the deck was killed. Then there was Alec (the cat whos name stands for A LovEd Cat), and he really touched me (you can learn about this one here: http://www.coolcybercats.com/alec.htm

Hi Claudia. I'm so sorry it was the mama cat that got killed.

Hi David, thanks for your reply. I'm so sorry to hear about all those animals you cared for that were killed. You have a very kind heart. It really bothers me even if I didn't know Bluebelle very well.
In regards to the shelter, what is "BBB". I live in Boston,Ma. zipcode 02122. I'm trying to locate a good shelter. I thought I had found one, but they told me they'd get back to me about accepting 2 kittens, though I thought that's what they were there for??? hmm... ANother shelter asks for $120 per cat. If you have any suggestions, I'd really be greatful. Thanks,
Claudia

Hi Shellseeker, Bluebelle was her name because of her thick beautiful bluish-grey color. I just wondered what kind of cat she was.

She could have been a Russian Blue, or maybe mixed with one. Russian Blues are very lanky though - they almost have the same shape as a Siamese, except they are a beautiful gray colour that turns blue when the light hits it just right.

I think there are a couple of other breeds of blue-gray cats, but I'm not sure what they are. I'm better with dog breeds. :)

The BBB is the Better Business Bureau. You can use them (www.bbb.org) to see if a shelter has a lot of complaints against it.

If you think a shelter there is good but it wants to get back to you…. Many shelters are filled to max capacity. Not much else they can do in that case. You can also check vets in the area. Many will allow you to post the kittens on the boards and this way you can see if the vet knows the potential adopter and if they are goof and responsible owners.

Hi, thanks for your reply David. I did try contacting some shelters, and a lot of them are full at this point, and/or don't have a "no-kill policy". I then posted an ad on
craigslist, and to my surprise, got a lot of responses. Do you think this is a good idea
for the kittens? And I think I read something that said beware of giving away kittens/cats and not charging a price, if you do charge than that is a better way of ensuring someone takes care of them...
I was thinking of giving 2 away, and keeping one, that way they won't be lonely.
thanks,
claudia
