Cat Question

I have 2 indoor black cats. One is six and the other is five. I've noticed in the last few months that they have some white hair sprouting up close to their head and chest. Is that pretty normal for cats? Does that mean they're getting older, I suppose?

Thanks in advance for your answers. :)

My black cat has those to and seems to "sprout" more from time to time. I think of them as "beauty hairs", like humans have "beauty marks"!

I HAVE A BLACK CAT AND SHE IS GETTING SOME WHITE HAIRS. I THINK THEY ARE LIKE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BLACK HAIR THE WHITE HAIR SHOWS MORE. I HAVE A 25 YEAR SIAMESE THAT HER BLACK POINTS ARE NOW GETTING LIGHTER THEY ARE ALMOST THE SAME COLOR AS HER THE REST OF HER SO I THINK THEY CHANGE LIKE WE DO. MY BOXER LAB NOSE IS GETTING GRAY AND HES ONLY 6. I DO THINK THEY AGE LIKE WE DO SOME SOONER THE OTHERS. JOANN

This is funny...I have an all black cat that is around 6 or 7 months old and she has recently been getting a lot more white hairs near her neck and chest, too...even a few on her face...her name is midnight so we say she is becoming a starry sky. :) And we joke that eventually she will just be all white... I have no idea what causes it, just losing pigment for some reason...changing color like little blond kids whose hair turns darker I spose (only opposite).

Hmmm...good question! I have a black cat too that is 4 and she sometimes has white hair. i had someone tell me that there is not a true pure black cat because they will always have some white on them somewhere.

My b/w tuxedo cat started to sprout some random white hairs where his black hair is...I think it's normal, just like in humans, we start to sprout white/grey hairs...middle age for a cat is around 6 years of age.

My Amber is completely gray except for where her spay scar is and she has white hairs. I started noticing them a couple of years ago and she's been getting more and more as the years go by. She's still totally gray except for white hairs around her neck and chest. She's around 9 years old now. My grandpa's black lab who's 14 has white hairs, so I think it's just part of getting older. My dog who's 13 has a gray eyelash. lol
