I have only indoor kitties but my only thought on the issue would be that she doesn't like the cold and gets chilly outside so wants to stay where it is warm.
Thanks for the quick reply. :) Well, she def. knows how to use a litter box, I'm sure she'd LOVE me if I had a litter box. LOL. Part of that problem, is my house is a mere 550 sq ft. The bathroom is 5 X 6 (that includes the tub) There is no room for a litter box except the screened porch (about 9X10)
We lived in a apt. before here...we had a litter box in the tub. We were on the second floor and had a balcony, the cats were outside everyday on it. So, they weren't total strangers to the outdoors before coming here. (Nemo was always an outdoor cat, we found him at 4-6 weeks old in the middle of a busy intersection, it's a miracle he's alive) Midis used to "escape" once in a while, then we just let her go out about 6 months before we moved it was more trouble keeping her in. Misty was my sister's and always an outdoor cat too. Sam was both.. he was so scared the few times he got out, but after we moved....he got really used to it, and loved the outdoors. (He must have been thinking, "WOW!! I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE....OOh, no, what have I done...........mommy???" LOL) All 3 females are fixed except Nemo...he's only about 14 months old.
I don't think she's be too happy about a sweater, but you know, its' worth a try. "Here Little Kitty, put your sweater on so you can go out" LOL.
(ps--just so no one gets the wrong idea, I don't ever expect my kitties to "hold it in" all night, they all let me know they have to go out.....except Little Kitty, LOL. Sure they have accidents, but I don't get upset at that, they are all good cats. Nemo wakes me up every morning at first light to go out. He's so cute. LOL. )
I have both inside and outside cats. I personally would put a litter box inside somewhere and let this cat stay inside. She may not feel safe outside. The other cats will still be outside a good bit, so the litter box shouldn't get too bad. You've already lost one cat, think how guilty you would feel if something happened to this cat that wants to stay safe inside yet is thrown outside. Donna
I pretty much agree w/Donna. Go back to keeping a litterbox in the tub, if that's the only place it will fit. (The porch wouldn't be a good idea b/c they couldn't get at it unless you opened the door for them.) Sure, the others will use it somewhat. But they may still prefer to go to the bathroom outdoors when possible, so it shouldn't get too dirty. But.... 4 cats to a pan is definitely too many if they do start using it a lot. Maybe 1 on the porch & 1 in the tub? Even LK probably wouldn't mind dashing out to the porch if she could get right back in.
I have a litterbox, even though my cats are allowed out. Moxie often, but not always, prfers to go to the bathroom outside. But she isn't out in all kinds & weather, or in the middle of the night, or when I'm at work. And Daisy, like your LK, pretty much stops going out once it gets cold.
I really don't think you can avoid having a box, preferably 2. Cats can't hold it like dogs, & you can't always be there to open the door. Cat pee in the rug smells bad, & the smell stays. Your landlord won't like that. A box won't smell if you keep it clean. You may even have to clean it 2x a day, w/4 cats. But that's the price of cat mommyhood. :o) I really don't find cleaning the litter (use clumping litter!) to be much of a job.
Litter pan cleaning = hard work??? I can't agree with you more that I've never found it to be hard work. Oh how I prefer cleaning a litter pan daily than having to clean up pee and poop off the floor!!!
There's even litter pans for those who enjoy the convenience, don't have enough time in the day or perhaps are just lazy about doing things like cleaning a litter pan - they're automatic! What is it called - Litter Maid? I don't think it could get any easier than that.
