So, I've been looking at Petsmart's website and trying to figure out everything I need and the prices. So here's what I have so far:

Fresh flow drinking fountain
Boundry repellent
scratching post
kitty bed
purr pads
simple solution allergy relief
Shed Relief
Window sill perch
LitterMain Automatic Litter box
Pine Cat litter
Cy Purr mouse sounds activate toy

Naturally, I have to get food and will be taking whatever is left at my dad's at the time I bring her to live with me. Is there anything else that I'm forgetting that is a must have? The automatic litter box is expensive, but I figure it would be the least hassle for me. I have no idea about cat litter - which is the best kind, etc. My moving is a ways off, but I like to know what things are going to cost me so I can plan. I plan on buying toys as I go cause I have no idea if Amber will actually play with anything. Because she's able to hunt, she doesn't play with toys. When she's indoors though, she won't be able to and so she just might start playing. Who knows? LOL

Unless your kitty is used to the fancy electronic stuff, keeping with the basics is best.

Hey there! Sounds like you have a good list going! I'm not sure, but I don't think the pine litter would work with a LitterMaid litter box. I've used the pine litter before, and I've found that the pellets are pretty big, and it's hard to get the solid waste out without scooping a bunch of the pellets. I don't know how many pellets would get scooped into the waste receptacle, or how many pellets the receptacle could hold. LitterMaid has its own litter designed for that specific product, and I'm not entirely sure what other litters work in it, but if I were you, I'd look into it before making any litter purchases. Maybe someone else on the board would have more insight into that...

I just bought a Cy-purr mouse for my furbabies, and I'm telling you now, it's LOUD! I had to tape over the speaker, because if the cat plays with it too long, it gets really irritating, because all you can hear when it's going is "uh-oh! nananananana!", and this squeaky rolly noise. I can hardly hear the t.v. sometimes if it rolls into the room I'm in. But, I have to say that it is fun to watch them play with it!

Also, if you can go all out with Amber, you may want to get her a cat tree or kitty condo, so she'll have something to climb all over or maybe just as something she can stake a claim on and call her own! We bought a cat tree for our cats and they absolutely love it!

Good luck taking Amber to a new home!

Amber won't be allowed in my bedroom as I'm allergic to cats. She's been an outdoor cat but gets let inside occasionally. She lives with my dad. When I move out of my mom's, I'm moving Amber in with me. I'm pretty confident that she'll adjust fine but as I've never had an indoor cat, I have no idea what to get. LOL I'm especially clueless when it comes to litter and toys. I've never had to deal with litter and she's been totally uninterested in the few toys I've gotten her over the years. I was hoping that the boundary spray would be a good deterrent for her to stay away from my bedroom at all times of the day, but I guess I will just have to keep the door closed. We have a cat bed for her in a small shed and she only uses it during winter. That thing is DEFINITELY not coming to my place as it's really dirty. lol Anyways, I have a feeling she'll just curl up on the couch or something. Most of the items are to help with dander due to my allergies - the cat bed, purr pads and allergy and shedding stuff.

So should I just wait and see before getting a bed then? Is there really any difference between a covered litter box and a non-covered one? I mean, do cats seem more willing to use the covered ones or does it not really matter? By the way, Amber came to us trained to use a litter box. What are liners? LOL Okay, I know I sound clueless but there's just all this stuff on the Petsmarts website. Do I really need all this stuff? Or can I just get a basic litter box and scoop the waste into a plastic grocery sack? I have plenty of those. lol

I forgot about something. I have two beta fish and they might just provide hours of entertainment for her. LOL Hopefully she doesn't ever go "fishing". I've had George and Herbert for a year now and am as attached to them as you can be to fish.

Since Amber is used to going outside, I would recommend an uncovered litter box...she is used to going in the wide open spaces, so might really feel confined with a covered box.

I'd put George and Herbert in a covered bowl that Amber can't get into or in a room where it will be off limits to Amber or she probably will go fishing.

Thanks so very much! You have saved me LOTS of money! LOL I just get kind of paranoid or something cause I want Amber to be happy when she moves in with me. Of course, she's an outdoor cat who's living with two men, so she'll probably be in heaven when she moves in with me. lol I just want my baby to okay and happy.

I'm upgrading George and Herbert to their own aquariums and since I'm not exactly sure what Amber will do, when I move, they're going to be put in my room.

i have owned a litermaid plus for 2 years now. it was obviously(from the name)updated from the original with some improvements because my plus is not that loud. also, they have now come out with a new longer version(6 inches).since i work all day and can't scoop after each of his uses, i find littermaid does a fine job of scooping 30 secs after he uses it. then when i come home i just take a grocery bag and empty the recepticle once.it's so easy. now all it needs is a hard plastic liner, so you can just take it out when needed. i've only seen it on a brand thst was taken off the market, but the liners were left on the shelf(by petsmart)in hopes it'd come back. after 1 year- still hasn't. go with the littermaid though, i highly reccomend it.it has a listing inside the box of recommended litters. also petsmart puts out its own AUTHORITY BRAND cat food that is exactly what NUTRO puts out. no by-products. try the CHICKEN or OCEANFISH formulas. they are chunky styles not pate. my cat won't eat pate which is all the senior formulas are, so i have to stick with adult formulas with low ash and low magnesium for his urinary tract. i hope all this helps.
