Cortisone shots, cause diabeties???

Hopefully some of you fellow vet techs out there could help me figure out this mystery.

A co-worker of mine has a 10 year old female cat. Good health, and good weight. Eats a balanced Science Diet, diet.

Back in August she had developed a limp, believe to be from landing wrong off a high kitty post. My friend took her to his vet and she had given the kitty a cortisone shot (just one injection, no follow up) and his kitty improved and all was said and done.

He noticed about 3 weeks after the shot that his kittys thirst had increased as well as urination (PUPD). He took her back to the vet in mid October to find that she had developed diabeties. His vet said that while it was not common that she could have very well developed the diabetis from her cortisone injection!

My friend is in awe that one single shot could cause such an problem. Have any of you heard of this or know of a case you could share with me? My friend is desperate for information. He wants to research this and see how common it is. Any information on the affects of cortisone and diabeties or such would be very helpful.

Thank you;

Jenny
