Because I live in a highrise bldg. surrounded by senior citizens who routinely keep our local fire dept. on its toes, this tip from Purina was esp. important to me...

Disaster Kit - Purina
In the event of a disaster such as a fire or tornado, have a pet disaster evacuation kit ready. The kit should contain fresh food, water and bowls. Have a leash and harness in the kit. Medical supplies such as a pet first aid kit, medications, medical records and veterinary phone numbers should also be included. Lastly include a photo of your cat in the event she gets lost.

That's a good idea. When I get my apartment, I'll have to make up a kit as I'll be bringing Amber to live with me.
