Do cats bleed in heat?
| Mon, 04-18-2005 - 10:56am |
I've had over 20 cats in my life and never has any of them bled. I woke up in the morning to find blood spots on my new rug and on the table. I checked my cat right away and there it was.. bleeding from the vagina. She is walking around the house crying and being friendly. My other cat just had kittens so maybe she is jealous? I thought this cat was pregnant too but maybe not.

Hi Maybebaby04.
Yeah, if you had reason to think she was pregnant, chances are it's a miscarriage ... there's definitely blood involved there. Also depression.
It's rare for a cat in heat to bleed, but some of them do on occasion. Something to do with their hormone level, I think. I'd definitely at least call the vet, particularly since she's walking around crying.
Penelope
It sounds like her hormones
Leslie,
I called my vet again today to ask her about my cat with the other kittens. They say this is fine because the mother cat will probably scare her away and she doesn't think she'll do any harm. So right now that's where the cat ran in.. right to the kittens. She is laying there with them purring loudly and looks happy as if she is feeding them. I showed the mother cat she was there and she didn't seem to care.. at least not at this second. She HOUNDS to come into the room all day.
I also asked them about the blood again and they said it's still because she's in heat. I still find this very strange.. this whole thing. I don't think she could have aborted her kittens anywhere because i've looked. The vet said it could be that she's jealous especially since the two cats are sisters. This is why she wants to be with the kittens. I also haven't found any blood today.. but I guess we'll see.
Thanks for the help!
I guess if the vet isn't worried about the blood, then it must not be anything. I just don't remember any of my kitties bleeding like that.
