Ellie took a turn for the worse,at 7 this am she was struggling to breath and I ran her over to the vet and pounded on the door. They gave her oxygen and poked and ran iv's. From all the tests they figure she has a severe inf in her stoimach and just now took her to surgery, does not look good. She quit breathing when I was there, I am so sick, will talk when they call.I cannot loose that sweet girl

(((Chris))) My heart is just breaking for you. I wish we could all be there with you in person to give you a real hug. This was certainly unfair and I still cannot believe it. Please know you have my deepest sympathies.

Godspeed little ^Ellie^.

Does this sound right to you , that she could have gotten this terrible inf. ??????I wonder why they did not figure it sooner, they are stumped as she had no temp. I cannot believe this and wish I never would have spayed her,I feel like it is my fault and I did this to her

I am so sorry, I can't believe it. I know you are in shock. You didn't have any signs of sickness such as fever ect...Spaying is major surgery. You will mourn this kitty for a long, long time. She was loved more by you than anyone else in the world, you will see her again. This weighs heavy on my heart. I'm just so sorry. donna

Thank you Cat for the information. I wonder what percentage of spay operations result in complications? I just had no idea. I am grateful my two newest kitties made it through their recent spay operations. I wonder if Misha's spay just a few days before I got her had anything to do with her bad infections she struggled with for several weeks afterwards? I am so grateful to God she did not die. She had been pregnant, and I know when they spay a preganant cat (which I suspect they did...they couldn't prove to me she'd had her kittens prior to the spay) that it is much more complicated than normal.

I understand how you feel about ^Pudd^. I lost my ^Missy^ 8 years ago and I still cry for and miss her. Our furbabies are our children and we miss them forever. I really pray we will see our furangels again one day!

Hugs,

You did all you could do. As I have discovered, when it is their time to pass on to heaven, it is their time no matter how fast or how many times you take them to the vet. Maybe she had the problem in her stomach all along but the surgery weakened it. I think they did good to xray her when they did. I don't know. Its always scary when you take a cat for surgery. Your loss is just so unexpected, such a shock. Take your love for Ellie and later on share your love and compassion with another kitty that could use it. In honor of Ellie. This has saddened everyone. donna

Chris, please, never blame yourself for Ellie's death. I truly believe that when it is someone's time, human or animal, then there is nothing anyone can do about it.

I was very upset when our dog ^Cleo^ died in 1997. She was the sweetest dog. She was only 7 years old and should have had at least another 6 or 7 years in her. She had a brain aneurism, but because it was such a small, isolated town with minimal equipment, they couldn't prove it right then and there. A town by-law stated that whenever rabies was suspected, an animal had to be put down. So she was put down, even though she could have lived on medication. Sometimes these things happen, and it is so unfair and you wonder if something could have been done differently, but what's done is done and you can never blame yourself.

You know Precious honey bunny had a fever, quit eating after her spay. About 3 days after her spay. Remember I ended up getting her re-checked and on medicine at a different vet clinic since the vet that did the spay wasn't concerned enough about her not eating and laying around (signs of sickness/fever). I do wonder the % of trouble for this surgery. Maybe someone could find out, then again, I don't think I want to know. donna
