Ever build a cat condo?

DH and I are considering building a cat condo for Columbo...DH hopes he uses it to sleep on, because he doesn't want him on our bed. I say that the cat sleeps where the cat WANTS to sleep...especially when we're unconscious. LOL Either way, we'd still like a condo/perch, but the prices are crazy! We don't want an elaborate one, we only have ONE cat...but we want something a little more off the ground than the tube-style ones.

Anyway, just wondering if you've ever built one, if so did you design it yourself, or did you buy a "blueprint"?

TIA! Rebecca

Do you HAVE to use carpet, or can it be made with a durable fabric like courderoy? Do you pad the surfaces, or just put the cover directly over the wood?

Just curious.

I'm excited, I think we can do this!

We just used carpet as the carpet is easy for them to get their claws in

He will make shreds of courderoy in no time, so carpet is best.

My dh can also build anything. We recently needed a ramp for my cat who just had hip and knee surgery to use to get on and off the couch. A carpet store gave me the carpet and the wood cost us under $10., ramps in stores cost over $100. each. Mine looks great! As for a cat tree, mine love their biggest one, has spiral stairway shelves, curved shelves where it kind of cradles them. It goes 4 shelves up, they love being near the ceiling, has sisal legs and also cedar post legs which they can climb! They really love it and I would suggest something like mine. Good luck, you will save a fortune by building it yourselves. Donna
