Feeding your kitties

We have just adopted our third (and last) cat. In the past, we have had a continuous feeder for our cats, and it was never an issue. But this new cat eats ALL the time. And it is leading my other two into the same pattern. So, I'm wondering if I maybe need to just put out food in the mornings, and when it is gone, it is gone. But if I do that, how do I ensure that ALL three cats receive the amount of food they need, and not just one is eating it all? Also, what is a good amount of food to be giving them? THANKS

HI there! We have 2 cats. When we brought #2 home (Vance), he ate all the time and for a while we were advised to feed them seperately. We tried that (different bowls in different rooms), but we found that #2 would dominate BOTH bowls and #1 (Shayde) would just wait until #2 was done and pick up the scraps. So, we let them sort it out. We feed them 2/3 cups per day only once in the morning and they are both very healthy cats. They are fed in the morning out of the same bowl. We've found, now that they have been together a couple of years, they've learned to make it last! Vance tends to chow down in the morning and Shayde will eat whatever is left over in the evening. It took a while for them to get into the groove that once it's gone - IT'S GONE. Vance will, if he thinks there is an endless supply of food, eat it all in a day or two.
If we feel like one is seriously over eating and the other isn't getting enough, we'll add some more food at night (when Shayde eats) and give out some extra treats to the under-eating animal.
