I'm gearing up to make a cross-country move (CA to VA) and could use advice on how to minimize the trauma of the move on my two cats. I plan to drive the entire distance at about 500 miles per day.

Hi Ksinha and *WELCOME* to Cats! I have a few suggestions for you...first, make sure they have a large carrier, one big enough to fit a small litter pan, food, water and a towel or small blanket for them to lay on. I don't recommend tranquilizing them for the entire trip - it's harsh on them, you can try natural sedatives such as Rescue Remedy or Lavender to help take the edge off, they won't have that groggy appearance that they would with heavy tranquilizers. I assume you will be stopping every day at a hotel - here is a list of hotels that accept pets:

I also suggest posting on the "Travelling with Pets" board here at iVillage - here is the link:

Good luck with the move!

Hi Ksinha. *WELCOME* to Cats. Cl-Cat gave you some excellent information and I really can't add to it.

Good luck with your move and let us know how you all do.
