Our kittens (born early March) are eating on their own.  Time to catch their mom and get her to the vet.  I'm a little nervous.  I've only touched her tail, and she never fell for the live trap situation a few months ago.  I have to drive her a half hour away to a small town vet so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg.  They will do the spay and give her a rabies shot.  They are in a farm area and apparently they do a lot of those for the farm cats in the area.  Wish us all luck!

That's great that you are going to get mom spayed.  Please be careful when handling her that she doesn't bite you since she doesn't have a rabies shot yet.  Good luck to you and mom cat!

Good luck. I have used the kittens as "bait" before. If you have a live trap, put the kittens in a carrier behind the trap and set it open so she has to walk in to get to them....doesn't always work, but worth a try.

I am curious how it all worked out, I hope you got her to the vet with no problem. Let us know, thanks.

We were feeling kind of guilty so we waited until this Sunday night (mother's day unfortunately) to take the remaining 3 kittens and set up the live trap in the garage.  Monday when I went home for lunch she was in there, so so unhappy.  I drove her to the vet, which she did very good on the drive.  He wasn't able to get to her until this morning, Tuesday.  She is doing well and I can pick her up in the morning.  Going to turn the AC on in the garage so she can rest in safety for a few days.  (it is very hot here in Iowa right now).  I have 2 people coming to get kittens this weekend, and only 1 more to find a home for....frustrating.  But glad to know she (and us) won't have to go through the kitten process again.
