Hi...
I have a 6 year old Maine Coon male, who FREAKS an tears off like his tail is on fire for no discernable reason. Well, he did this while I was picking him up to put on my lap on New Years day...I now have scars that run down half the length of my hand and wrist. Today, he did the same thing to my 15 year old son. I know he's really skiddish and neurotic to begin with, and he's a really sweet cat (and neutered), but I can't keep having this happen to me and my family. He IS family, but it's not fair that he never gets snuggled again for fear of being shredded, and it would kill me to lose him. Any suggestions? Please?

I agree with everyone. Maybe have on long sleeves whenever you want to pet him. He may not be a lap cat, you could adopt a lap cat also if you love holding the kitties. He is not being neglected. Just enjoy him the best way you can. Donna

You might try "Feliway" which is supposed to calm cats down. It calmed mine when I was using it. I do NOT recommend a product called "Pet-EZE for Cats" by 21st Century. I bought some last week and they are supposed to be chewable liver-flavored tablets to calm down cats, but my cats won't touch them. One night I tried chopping them up and mixing them in with their canned food but they wouldn't touch the Fancy Feast after I put the Pet-EZE in it. I am not happy that I spent $7 on this product and now can't get my cats to eat it! I wanted them to be relaxed so I could clip their claws - but no such luck. Iri
