Furbaby NOT happy with me

The verdict of the vet visit yesterday was that my baby has a kidney infection. They said that it is probably making her feel really poorly and making her iritable also. They gave me some special food to give her and some antibiotics that she has to have twice a day for seven days.

That part is where the trouble starts....

The antibiotic is banana flavored which is completely BEYOND me. WHY, WHY, WHY would they make a CAT'S medicine BANANA flavored??? She hates it. That is an understatement and she makes herself gag whenever I give it to her. She spits and foams and tries to get it back up and I know that isn't good for her either. But, I also know that I need to give her the antibiotic like her doctor said. Ack! But I HATE for her to be ill with me and think I'm being mean to her. I'm NOT being mean, I'm just trying to help her. She is currently in the window and won't have anything to do with me.

HELP!

I know most cats tend not to eat food that has been tampered with. I will tell you, though, that when I had to give Bad Annie ringworm pills, I ground it down into a powder (with a steak knife...took ages)....mixed it with an amount of soft cat food that I knew she'd eat, and she ate it without incident. So if you end up having to get pills, you could try it once and see if she'll eat take it that way.

Well, I called the vet yesterday morning to see if there was something else I might give her and he told me to take her off of it altogether. I'm now wondering why he prescribed it to her in the first place!

Hmmm, I'm inclined to possibly suggest a second opinion.

I don't think that antibiotics should be abondoned in the case of a kidney infection. It won't magically clear up on its own - human infections don't! I would seek a second opinion because if the infection gets worse she could end up with severe problems which could quite possibly lead to death.

I agree with the Rena and Unicorn. I wouldn't stop the antibiotics either.
